Former Prime Minister Suga of the Liberal Democratic Party met with Prime Minister Modi in India on the 6th, agreeing on policies to strengthen economic cooperation aimed at expanding the business activities of Japanese companies in the growing Indian market. Suga, who serves as the chairman of the Japan-India Association focused on fostering goodwill and friendship between Japan and India, is visiting India this month along with approximately 100 top executives from Japanese companies, including JR East President Yuji Fukazawa.
Mr. Suga toured a high-speed rail construction site in the western state of Gujarat, supported by Japan, and also met with Prime Minister Modi in the capital New Delhi on the 6th.
According to announcements from the Indian government, both leaders agreed on a policy to strengthen economic cooperation and promote people-to-people exchanges aimed at expanding the business of Japanese companies in the increasingly growing Indian market.
