Kochi Castle

This famous castle was completed in 1605 by the first feudal lord, Yamauchi Kazutoyo, and celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2003.

 Highlights
・Kochi Castle is the only castle in Japan where all the buildings in the main citadel remain intact. It is an extremely rare castle.
・In front of the Ote Gate is a great photo spot where you can easily fit the castle tower and Ote Gate in one photo.
・There are statues of Itagaki Taisuke and Chiyo, the wife of Kazutoyo, who was famous for her support of his wife.
・Limited-time events are sometimes held here.

Hirome Market

The food stall village, where you can enjoy Kochi's specialty products and seafood and mountain produce to your heart's content, is now a popular tourist spot in Kochi. The style is to buy your favorite food from your favorite store and eat it at your favorite seat. Souvenirs are also sold, so even if you're not going to eat, why not go and experience the fun atmosphere?

Sunday Market

Kochi's street market has a 300-year history. The Sunday Market is the largest of the five-day-a-week street markets, and is held every Sunday except for New Year's and Yosakoi festivals.

Not only do they sell food such as agricultural products and country sushi, but they also sell a variety of other items such as plants, flowers, cutlery, handmade goods, and household goods.
It's fun just to stroll around and look around in the tropical scenery lined with palm trees.

Harimaya Bridge

Located in the center of Kochi City, this bridge appears in the Yosakoi Bushi song sung in the Yosakoi dance, and is so famous that it is said that "Kochi means Harimaya Bridge.
"There is a mechanical clock, and famous sites such as Kochi Castle and Katsurahama Beach appear every hour to the melody of the Yosakoi Bushi song.

Kochi Yosakoi Information Exchange Center

This is a facility where you can learn about and experience the history and evolution of the Yosakoi Festival, which began in 1954.

There is an exhibition of original costumes, and an experience corner where you can actually wear the costumes and take photos and dance.

Ryoma's Birthplace Memorial Museum

This facility is located in Kamimachi, the birthplace of Sakamoto Ryoma, a hero of the late Edo period born in Tosa. It introduces the family and town that formed the foundation of Ryoma's character, as well as the history, tourism, and culture centered around Ryoma.

Kochi Prefectural Museum of Literature

East of Kochi Castle, the museum exhibits works by authors with ties to Kochi, such as Ki no Tsurayuki and Miyao Tomiko, as well as regularly holding various special exhibitions and events that convey the appeal of literature.

Godaisan
 20 minutes

Famous for cherry blossoms and azaleas. At the foot of the mountain, there is the 31st temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage, "Chikurin-ji Temple," and the Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden, which was established to honor the achievements of the world-renowned botanist Dr. Tomitaro Makino.

The view of Kochi city and Urado Bay from the summit of Mt. Godai Observatory is spectacular. You will need to use the stairs to reach the observation deck.

Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden

Dr. Tomitaro Makino, a native of Takaoka-gun, Kochi Prefecture, is a world-renowned botanist who was the first person in Japan to give a scientific name to a plant. The botanical garden established to commemorate his achievements is full of things to see.

 Highlights
・You can enjoy about 3,000 species of plants from all seasons, including plants from Kochi Prefecture and plants related to the doctor.
・After a stroll through the large garden, take a break in a restaurant or cafe surrounded by greenery.
・Be sure to check out the original goods at the shop and postcards of Dr. Makino.

Katsurahama

One of Kochi's most famous scenic spots. The Yosakoi dance song "Katsurahama is famous for the moonlight," but there are also facilities you can enjoy during the day, such as the aquarium and the Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum.

 Highlights
・Don't miss the bronze statue of Sakamoto Ryoma, which looks as if it is looking far out over the Pacific Ocean from a high vantage point.
・Katsurahama Aquarium is popular for its feeding of Asian small-clawed otters and sea turtles, as well as shows featuring sea lions and sea lions.
・Kochi Prefectural Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum is a facility that has the best materials on Sakamoto Ryoma.

This is famous for the fact that the Sengoku warlord Chosokabe Motochika prayed for victory in his first battle. There is a statue of Chosokabe Motochika's first battle.
