 This famous shrine is dedicated to Masanari Kusunoki, a military commander from the late Kamakura period (1185-1333) to the Nanbokucho period (1392-1333).  Designed by Kotaro Sakurai and completed in 1935, the building was converted from the former Kobe Branch Building of the Yokohama Seikin Bank (now Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ). It is a neoclassical building with Doric columns on the front facade, and is considered a masterpiece of early Showa period architecture.
