Marriott International and HMI Hotel Group Enter Strategic Partnership

Today, Marriott International (Headquarters: Maryland, U.S.A.; CEO: Anthony Capuano) and Hotel Management International Co. Ltd. (Headquarters: Nihonbashi Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Ryuko Hira; abbreviated as HMI Hotel Group) announced plans to enter a strategic partnership. This collaboration involves the rebranding of seven existing HMI Hotel Group hotels in five cities across Japan into Marriott Hotels and Courtyard by Marriott.

Newly Rebranded Hotels:

Marriott Hotels:
Hamamatsu Marriott Hotel (formerly Grand Hotel Hamamatsu), Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture
Kyoto Marriott Hotel (formerly Hotel Heian no Mori Kyoto), Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture
Kobe Marriott Hotel (formerly Hotel Crown Palais Kobe), Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture
Okinawa Marriott Rizzan Resort & Spa (formerly Rizzan Sea Park Hotel Tancha Bay), Onna Village, Kunigami District, Okinawa Prefecture

Industry Context:

The travel industry is witnessing a steady global recovery, with travel demand in Japan rapidly increasing. The number of foreign tourists visiting Japan has surpassed pre-COVID levels. This business partnership leverages HMI Hotel Group's extensive network across Japan and Marriott's global standards to create appealing, internationally-branded hotels.

Local Impact:

This initiative will mark the debut of the Marriott Group's establishment in the cities of Hamamatsu and Kitakyushu, introducing travellers to these previously lesser-known but charming destinations rich in natural beauty, history, and culture.

Project Scale:

The rebranding of these seven hotels, totalling approximately 2,200 rooms, represents the largest single-contract project that Marriott International has undertaken in Japan. The hotels are scheduled to open in the fall of 2025, following renovation work.
